This Chopping Board has been cut into several pieces of Spalted Sycamore (the one with the dark brown-black patterns) and a strip of Wenge, an African tropical hardwood that is native to the Republic of Cameroon and Zaire. It is regarded for its ability to resist abrasion and is often used to coat floors etc. It is now on the red list of wood because of loss of habitat and the overuse within its native area. The piece we have came from a local company that only sells recycled wood.
We have finished any rough edges with metal that had been sent to be scrapped. The handles too have been hand forged.
It has been coated in a covering of vegan mineral oil to look after the board when using it to chop fruit and veg, in order to use it as a tray wipe clean with a suitable detergent and let it dry before other objects such as Cameroonian Plantain bites or fish pie! Or even English scones and tea!
It is modern even if the wood is pre-used with it’s sleek black lines and distinctive pattern. Very stylish!
